News from Mrs. Kingland’s Kindergarten Class K-K

News from KK Kindergarten
Wow! It's November and Thanksgiving is nearly here. We continue to listen, learn and play in Kindergarten. Here's a little of what we're learning.
Language Arts
We are in our second round of letters and sounds. This time around has us creating a word wall of our friends names and soon sight words that we will be seeing over and over in our emergent reader books. It is also giving us writing practice with capital and lowercase letters. We are pulling out sounds we hear in words for labeling the pictures in our ABC journal and are sound spelling so our words look like they sound. For example: the word apple will look like apl and caterpillar will look like catrpilr.
Math
We continue to explore numbers with the help of ten frames, 10 sticks with ones cubes and straw bundles and straws. We are very confident with numbers 0-10 and are working to continue confidence with the teen numbers. 11-19 Watch for a tricky teen booklet to come home and ask your child about it. If your child asks, all teens start with a 1, because they have a full 10 frame, bundle or 10 stick plus (and) more. We have also been counting how many days we've been in Kindergarten. We use bundles of 10 and singles to count ones. Ask your child to count by 10's with you to 100.
Thank you.......
*for reading to your child nightly. They love being able to return and check out new library books each day.
*for 100% participation during fall conferences. It was so great to sit down with each of you and talk about the great things your child is doing in Kindergarten. If you ever have any concerns or questions please feel free to contact me. or 444-8123
*for making sure your child has tennis shoes for PE each day. They can’t participate without them.
*for using your child's planner as a vehicle for important information I need to know. A special thank you to those of you who write each day how your child gets home as it's different each day.
Thank you all for sharing your Kindergartener with me. We are on a great adventure and I look forward to each day and the months ahead!

Reminders:
*All Jumprope for Heart sheets and money is due back to school on Monday, November, 21.
*If there is a change in how your child is leaving school, please make sure you have noted the change in your child’s planner. I want to make sure your child gets to where they need to safely and correctly afterschool every day.
No School Wednesday 11/23, Thursday 11/24 and Friday 11/25 Happy Thanksgiving!
*When the first snow arrives, please have your child’s snow boots, snow pants, winter jackets, hats and mittens with them at school each day. Please let me know if you want your child to start leaving their tennis shoes for PE in their lockers when boot season starts. Sometimes parents find that easiest in the winter months. We have been very fortunate so far to have such great fall weather but we know what is to come.
